Antique silk kimono obi sash for wearing, or as a calming blue and oyster white table runner. At 3.4 meters long, it will span even large dining tables that seat 8-10 guests. Can also be used as an eye-catching wall tapestry that has a Japan culture backstory.
Fashioned in Japan's kimono capital of Kyoto by artisans who create silk accessories for the centuries-old kimono industry. Made in a typical traditional triangle pattern called in Japanese "hishi-gata"meaning "diamond pattern," with deep sea blue, silver accents, and an oyster white background.
This item is a former display unit, and has some small spots and a crease on it, which make it unsellable in the demanding quality-control standards of the kimono industry.
This silk obi, thinner than some other obi we offer, and intended for summer kimonos, would cost several hundred dollars if sold new in showroom condition. Due to the small blemishes on the fabric, we now offer this silk sash at a very affordable price for collectors who want a taste of Asian kimono wear without paying luxury showroom prices.
Some decorators will also think of using this obi as a wall tapestry, or wall installation, either hanging directly, or in a large frame.
